Just got back from prom which sadly failed to live up to my expectations. I'm refusing to sleep because I feel a little drunk and I have to wake up at 6.45. So I figured I might as well use the internet of which I have been deprived of in the last 2 weeks. Anyway, China on the whole was good. But there were some thorns up the ass if you know what I mean. For starters, the 12 hour journey on the sleeper bus was far worse than expected. The only consolation among the cramped beds, dusty air, used pillows and blankets and the plethora of spit was that they played songs by Emil Chow. I mean, people were still complaining and all but the music could be a lot worse-least it wasn't Chinese opera or anything of that ilk.
Well the few things that fascinated me about China and Tibet was firstly of course the weather.
-10 to 10 degrees. Perfect. Walking around the town feeling the cool breeze in my hair was enough for me to not take my anti-depressants. The second, is the people's total lack of consideration whatsoever. It fascinates me because, as if spitting all over the place is not enough, they shout, sing and do whatever they want when they want to the extent its cool. I greatly treasured the opportunity to spit and throw my rubbish all over the place which really felt good.
The third is the fashion. I was really impressed byte he winter fashion which although consists of 'paichi' brands like 'abibas' and 'Jiao-Dan' (Jordan) still looked darn good.
I must say spending nearly 2 weeks there has improved my Chinese tremendously. I made friends with the kabab seller, the pancake man and various cab drivers and I realised that there are as innocuous as they seem. 'Open and sociable, they were always filled with things to say. This has developed a sense of commiseration within me. Such good natured people living a life so unrewarding. Okay enough ranting, I'm leaving for KL tomorrow with Kaiting and Josh. Time to do some proper shopping. I will survive.
